Sri Lanka stocks rise 1.01-pct

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 1.01 percent Thursday with index heavy Browns Investments, Expolanka Holdings and John Keells Holdings driving up the market brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 72.00 points to close at 7,193.28.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.62 percent or 17.60 points to close at 2,867.72.

Turnover was 2.5 billion rupees with 119 stocks gaining and 47 falling.

Browns Investment closed 20 cents up at 5.70 contributing most for the ASPI gain and Browns and Company gained 7.50 rupees to close at 162.75 rupees.

LOLC Holdings gained 3.75 to close at 295.75 rupees and LOLC Finance closed 30 cents up at 5.90 rupees.

Expolanka Holdings gained 1.30 rupees to close at 46.00 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed 80 cents up at 44.80 rupees a share.

A 30 million negotiated trading was seen on John Keells Holdings at 150 rupees a share and the stock closed 1.50 rupees up at 150.00 rupees and Vallibel One gained 1.70 to close at 48.80 rupees.

Hayleys Plc closed 2.60 rupees up at 63.40 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gaining 70 cents to close at 47.10 rupees and Haycarb Plc gaining 2.50 rupees to close at 95.50 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 10 cents up at 6.10 rupeeswhile Singer Sri Lanka closed 50 cents down at 16.90 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 85.60 rupees, Hatton National Bank closed 75 cents down at 125.25 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed 30 cents down at 59.30 rupees, and Nations Trust Bankclosed 10 cents upat 55.40 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 2.00 rupees up at 51.00 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 50 cents up at 14.50 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 50 centsup at 33.90 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 2.20 rupeesup at 82.90 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 11.50 rupees up at 258.50 rupees, Lanka tiles gained 4.15 rupees up at 41.30 rupees and Lanka Walltiles gained 4.20 to close at 41.90 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed flat at 329.50 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 70 cents down at 82.70 rupees,Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 4.25 rupees up at 122.25 rupees while Distilleries Company closed 20 cents down at 19.70 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents down at 10.20 rupees, Aitken Spence Hotel holdings closed 10 cents down at 30.10 rupees while John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents up at 9.60.

Carson Cumberbatch closed 1.00 down at 277.50 rupees and Access Engineering closed 90 cents upat 23.00 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 13.00 rupees down at 1,133.50 rupees while Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.60 rupees up at 57.10 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 50 cents up at 33.20 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents down at 12.90 rupees and Richard Pieris and Company closed flat at 16.80 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 9.75 rupees up at 989.50 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 1.25 up at 623.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 11.20 rupees.

The market recorded a net foreign sales amounted to 372 million rupees today.

The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, gained 2.2percent today. (Colombo/April 01/2021)
