Sri Lanka stocks down 0.5- pct

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell 0.51 percent on Thursday ending a three-day rally, with Expolanka Holdings, Commercial Leasing and Finance and LOLC Holdings pushing the index down, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 36.71 points to close at 7,099.13.

The index started positive but fell throughout the day to reach a daily low at 7,086.85 before picking up to close marginally high.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 0.59 percent or 16.83 points to close at 2,854.25.

Turnover was 1.4 billion rupees with 69 stocks gaining and 88 falling.

The market recorded a net foreign sell of 94 million rupees today.

LOLC Holdings fell 5.50 rupees to close at 297.00 rupees.

LOLC Finance closed 20 cents down at 5.90 rupees, Browns and Company fell 1.75 rupees to close at 158.00 rupees while Browns Investment closed 10 cents up at 5.30 rupees.

Expolanka fell 1.70 rupees up to close at 44.30 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed 40 cents down at 43.70 rupees a share.

Dhammika Perera’s Vallibel One fell 1.80 rupees to close at 47.70 rupees and John Keells Holdings closed 75 cents down at 149.25 rupees.

Hayleys Plc closed 1.20 rupees down at 57.10 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 1.10 rupees to close at 45.60 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 3.60 rupees to close at 95.20 rupees.

The Kingsbusry closed flat at 6.00 rupees while Singer Sri Lanka closed 20 cents down at 17.20 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 50 cents down at 89.10 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed flat at 130.00 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed 40 cents down at 59.60 rupees, and Nations Trust Bank closed flat at 54.00 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 10 cents down at 50.20 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 40 cents down at 14.60 rupees.

Central Finance Company closed 20 cents down at 83.70 rupees and Housing Development Finance fell 2.10 rupees to close at 33.30 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 5.75 rupees up at 255.00 rupees, Lanka tiles fell 2.75 rupees to close at 184.25 rupees, Lanka Walltiles closed 4.75 rupees down at 187.00 rupees.

Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 237.75 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 70 cents down at 80.00 rupees and Distilleries Company fell 20 cents to close at 19.80 rupees while Ceylon Grain Elevators gain 1.00 rupees to close at 116.25 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 30 cents up at 10.30 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents down at 9.50 and Aitken Spence Hotel holdings closed 50 cents down at 29.00 rupees.

Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 275.00 rupees and Access Engineering closed flat at 22.10 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,160.00 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 20 cents up at 56.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 20 cents up at 32.40 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed flat at 12.90 rupees and Richard Pieris and Company closed 30 cents up at 16.70 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 1.25 rupees down at 998.50 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed flat at 625.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents down at 9.70 rupees.

The Food, Beverage and Tobacco Industry was the most active, fell 0.5 percent today. (Colombo/March 25/2021)
