“In this season of Kaun Banega Crorepati 13, I’ve introduced something called the tie-bow accessory like how you have a bow-tie. I have just reversed it and said tie-bow. It is a merger of a tie and a bow and I’ve taken my inspiration from the 18th century men’s clothing. They used to wear neck scarves which had ruffles and some of them also wore brooches with them. They had these breaches and long jackets with a lot of embroidery and with them they had these European style neck scarves, with ruffles and broaches on them. I have made it more of today and just reinvented it such that it looks nice while wearing a three-piece suit. I have used broaches, different tapes, embroidery tapes, ribbons and knotting techniques. This is the new feature that the audience will get to see this season in Mr Bachchan’s style,” said Priya.
When asked about the theme behind Big B’s outfits, “If you have noticed for the past three seasons I’ve retained the three piece suits, bandgalas. On festivals you will see him in a sherwani or a kurta pyjama. Because the show is an evening show and with the lighting and everything I have kept the colours deep again. In regular fine suiting you will find navy blue, maroon, black, wine colour and you will see a pop of colours here or there on bandgalas. I have also used pastel colours like light blue, lavender, light pink. That’s the general thing that I’ve retained. You will also get to see different things in accessories. Last year, you saw me playing with a lot in the bandhgalas, you had seen him wearing a lot of broaches on it. This year I’ve toned down a little bit so the bandhgalas won’t have accessories and will be plain because of this new feature that I’ve added, the tie bow. So this year I’ve kept it classic,” said the designer.
Last year, Mr Bachchan was seen flaunting a cufflink which had his grandson Agastya Nanda’s name. On being asked if Priya is planning to add anything new, she said, “I’ve customised cufflinks with names of all his family members for Mr Bachchan this time. The socks are his own feature that he adds. That’s his own style that he adds to the entire ensemble which is so much fun.”
Priya also went on to reveal about the styling inputs that Amitabh Bachchan adds, “At the beginning of every show I present a style guide to him and that style guide has the general direction of the way the season is going to go in terms of fashion and style for him. So, it has the three pieces, suits and bandhgalas and everything. Two seasons ago we had a different knotting technique of ties and that did really. I remember two-three seasons ago, I had given him a few plain ties and he told me Priya lets introduce this broach on the tie. And Prince Harry that was his royal wedding at that point and I think he had seen it or something, he told me let’s do it. It became such a big hit and that was his idea. He does share things with me. My focus is always on giving him good fit, comfort because it involves sitting on the chair for a few hours.”
When asked about the best compliment she received from Mr Bachchan, Priya said, “The best compliment for me doesn’t have to be from his mouth. Just the fact that he is wearing my designs and my clothes is the biggest compliment for me. He is India’s legend and it is such an honour for me to have him wear my designs. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
