NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Gaffar Market and Naiwala Market will remain closed from 10 pm on July 9 till 10 pm of July 11 for flouting Covid norms.
In an order issued on July 9 by the SDM, Karol Bagh it has been stated that the market associations failed to ensure compliance of Covid norms which is why it is necessary to take stringent action.
“As per the executive magistrate’s (Karol Bagh) report, the shopkeepers, thiyawallahs/vendors and general public in Gaffar market and Naiwala, Karol Bagh are not following the Covid appropriate behaviour. Due to large footfalls, market associations and shopkeepers are not able to ensure Covid protocols in the last three days. The situation may become the cause of super spreading of Covid 19,”’ stated in the order issued by the SDM, Karol Bagh Balram Meena.
“In the existing circumstances, it is important to take immediate and stringent action to curtail the spreading of the virus. Therefore in public interest, both the markets are restricted to open with effect from 10 pm on July 9 trill 10 pm on July 11. The ACP, Karol Bagh is directed to sanitise the market and market associations extend all cooperation,” stated the order further.
In another development, the district administration, north Delhi issued direction for closure of the DDA market at Sector 13, Rohini till July 12 for gross violation, including by the shopkeepers and extreme congestion.
In the order issued by SDM, Alipur it was stated that the additional DCP, Rohini did a surprise inspection of the market and found gross violation as a large number of shopkeepers as well as visitors were not wearing masks, no social distancing was being followed and there was extreme crowd in market.
The market association of Sector 13, Rohini has been directed to submit a clarification and detailed plan in writing as to how the Covid appropriate behaviour will be ensured in the market and it will be allowed to open as per guidelines issued by the DDMA.
On Friday, notice was also issued to Avantika Market in Rohini Sector 2 to strictly abide by the Covid norms to avoid closure action.
Prior to them, Laxmi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar (12 shops), Nangloi, Rui Market and Lajpat Nagar market also faced closure action in past one week for violation of Covid-appropriate behaviour, a move opposed by the traders who argued that shopkeepers/ market associations alone can be held responsible for violation at public places.
