Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervour across the country. Devotees thronged temples in large numbers to offer morning prayers on this auspicious occasion. All the temples dedicated to Lord Krishna were decorated with lights and flowers. In Srinagar, the Janmashtami procession was taken out after a gap of two years. The procession started from the Ganpatyar temple in the Habba Kadal area of the city and passed through Kralkhud, Barbarshah before concluding at the Lal Chowk. In Mathura’s temples, conch shells were blown and drums were played to mark the occasion. Temple priests along with devotees performed the morning ‘aarti’ and offered special prayers to Lord Krishna. Kapil Sharma, secretary, Shri Krishna Janmasthan Sansthan told ANI, “Today, on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, we have prepared a special dress for Lord Krishna. The ‘poshak’ (dress) is indeed beautiful and looks divine. It is made of silk and is well decorated.” President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people on this occasion. Janmashtami is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.
